Clutch free vs paid: what Basic, Verified, and sponsorship get an agency
By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · Clutch Reviews · Updated September 27, 2026 · Plans from clutch.co/get-listed and Clutch's help center
Start with the free Basic profile. It lets past clients leave reviews that Clutch checks, and some agencies say it brings traffic on its own.
Clutch Verified ($499 a year, paid upfront for 12 months) makes sense once you have reviews and want the badge, placement above unverified firms, and a link to your site from directory pages. Paying doesn't guarantee the badge: a firm that fails verification can ask for a partial refund, minus an $85 fee, within 30 days.
Sponsorship is the expensive, uncertain tier. Prices aren't published, the contract runs 12 months with no early exit, Clutch says it can't promise a set number of leads, and paid placements draw many of the harshest reviews.

What the free Basic profile gets you
A Basic profile lists your firm with basic company information, basic analytics, and a few case studies. Clients can review you, and their reviews go through the same checks as anyone else's: the reviewer signs in with LinkedIn, Google, or a company email, and Clutch says an editor reads the review before it goes live.
Basic gets no priority in directory lists, which show sponsored firms first, then verified ones, then everyone else by Clutch Rank. It also gets no link to your site from directory pages, and competitors can appear on it.
“it increase our traffic by 5% already even we are using its free version.”Haroon U., Trustpilot, September 2023
What $499 a year for Verified adds
For $499 a year, paid in one upfront payment, Clutch runs a CreditSafe credit check and a review of your operating history. If you pass, you get the Verified badge, placement above unverified firms, a link to your site from directory pages, no competitors on your profile, unlimited case studies, and a dedicated support rep. Verified also makes you eligible for Pay Per Lead and the Clutch Guarantee.
Verified has two catches: the agreement runs 12 months with no early cancellation and renews automatically, and buying it doesn't guarantee the badge. If you fail verification, which includes the credit check, you can ask for a partial refund, minus an $85 investigation fee, within 30 days of being told.
“Having our profile and verified status on the platform gives potential clients an easy way to see detailed reviews from our past clients, which goes a long way in building trust and confidence.”Alexandra U., Trustpilot (via Clutch's review link), October 2025
“I paid for their Verified badge subscription for my business, but the badge was never issued.”Bolocan C., Trustpilot, March 2026
Sponsorship and Pay Per Lead: paying for position and leads
Sponsorship puts you above organic listings on the service pages you choose. Clutch doesn't publish its prices, which vary by tier (Starter up to Quadruple Diamond) and by how many pages you sponsor. It's billed monthly on a 12-month commitment, and Clutch's help center says it can't promise a set number of leads.
With Pay Per Lead, you bid per screened project request, from $25 a lead with a $1,000 monthly minimum, and you need an active Verified or advertising plan to join. Reviewers split sharply on both.
“The Clutch channel sends significant qualified traffic my way, and the ad programs to increase visibility and drive inbound leads are solid and affordable.”Eric E., Trustpilot (via Clutch's review link), September 2025
“We even purchased sponsorship packages. While you might receive some leads, 9 out of 10 of them are low quality”Kate, Trustpilot, March 2026
“spent over $10,000 for no leads and bad customer service”Steve P., G2, May 2024
Before you sign a paid plan
- Write down the renewal date. Both paid plans renew automatically, and cancelling takes a written request at least five business days before it.
- Ask which directory pages you'll appear on and what traffic Clutch estimates for them, since sponsorship comes with estimates rather than a lead count.
- Get any promise about a trial or an exit in writing. The billing terms allow no early cancellation in the first year.
- Track Clutch leads separately from other channels so you can judge the renewal on your own numbers.
When the free profile is enough
If you're still collecting your first client reviews, or most of your work comes from referrals, the Basic profile covers the main use: a checked, public record prospects can look up. Paid placement matters more in crowded categories, where sponsored and verified firms fill the top of the default list.
Clutch free vs paid FAQ

Is Clutch Verified worth $499 a year?+
It can be if you already have client reviews. The badge, placement above unverified firms, and a directory link to your site are the main gains, and several reviewers credit verified status with building trust with prospects. Budget for the full year upfront, since there's no early cancellation, and know that paying doesn't guarantee the badge.

No. Verified and sponsorship both need a 12-month agreement with no early cancellation, and both renew automatically. Cancel in writing at least five business days before the renewal date.
Does Clutch sponsorship guarantee leads?+
No. Clutch's help center says it can't promise a specific number of leads, and its terms say advertising doesn't guarantee traffic or leads. Reviewers report results ranging from steady inbound leads to spam.
How much does Clutch Pay Per Lead cost?+
Bids start at $25 per lead, with a $1,000 monthly minimum budget. You need an active Verified or advertising plan to join. Clutch shortlists up to five providers per request and gives priority to active Pay Per Lead bidders.
