Why agencies leave Clutch

We read the 200 Clutch reviews Trustpilot shows without a login (May 2023 to September 2026) and the 10 on an archived copy of Clutch's G2 page. The 135 organic Trustpilot reviews, the ones that arrived without a link from Clutch, average 3.49 stars, and 47 of them are one star. The other 65 came through a review link Clutch shares, and every one is five stars. The gap is wider over the last 12 months: 27 organic reviews average 2.89, while 45 link reviews average 5.0. On G2, Clutch has 3.0 from 29 reviews (February 2026). Among agencies, four complaints come up again and again.

Clutch's 12-month contracts and renewals

Clutch Verified and sponsorship both require a 12-month agreement. Clutch's help center says early cancellation isn't available in that first term, and its terms don't allow downgrades during it. Both plans renew automatically unless you cancel in writing at least five business days before the renewal date. Reviewers who wanted out after a slow start, or who missed the window, describe being held to the year and billed again.

“It's a year commitment. Even after you cancel after year they'll argue with you about how you still need to pay additional time. I'm now being billed for 13 months.”John-Luke L., Trustpilot, August 2024

Paid plans on Clutch that brought few or spammy leads

Clutch doesn't publish sponsorship prices, and its help center says it can't promise a set number of leads. Sponsors and other paying agencies describe months of payments with no leads, or with leads that looked like spam. Some say the inquiries came from countries they don't sell to.

“Despite being told we’d see results within three months, it’s now been seven months, and we haven’t seen a single lead”Gino F., Trustpilot, November 2024
“I asked for leads that were US based and they kept giving me India, Dubai, etc. I spent over $2,000 and didn't get even a single phone call out of it.”Drew B., Trustpilot, February 2026

Paying for Clutch Verified without getting the badge

Verified costs $499 a year, paid upfront, and includes a credit check with Clutch's partner CreditSafe. Clutch's own Verified page says that "simply purchasing Clutch Verified does not mean your business will become verified." If you fail, you can ask for a partial refund, minus an $85 investigation fee, within 30 days of being told. A few reviewers say they paid and the check never finished, or the badge never appeared.

“Bought a package to verify my business on Clutch, they took the money but the profile never got reviewed.”Luka S., Trustpilot, August 2025

Client reviews that are slow to publish on Clutch, or get rejected

Clutch says it usually processes reviews within five business days, and its help center currently warns that processing may take longer than usual. Verified and sponsorship customers get expedited processing. Agencies describe client reviews that sat for weeks without a decision, and even a five-star G2 reviewer says the interview step takes time.

“two of my clients have submitted reviews in the past 2-3 weeks and they still haven't appeared on my profile page”Joshua W., Trustpilot, November 2023
“The process of getting a review published can take some time, because it's contingent on the client providing an interview to confirm what services were done, and their experience.”Miné S., G2, May 2023

Locked into 12 months, renewal hard to stopGoodFirms. Its terms of use say subscriptions renew month to month and can be cancelled by email at least five business days before the next billing date.PRO is $49 a month but billed annually ($588), and GoodFirms doesn't say whether PRO can end mid-year. The terms have no refund clause.
Paid for placement, got few or spammy leadsDesignRush. You bid on specific project leads instead of paying for placement; bids on $5,000 to $10,000 projects start at $50.Memberships ($200 or $300 a month) need a one-year minimum paid upfront. No refunds on bids; if the client goes quiet, the bid becomes credit.
Paid for placement, got few or spammy leads (European buyers)Sortlist. You pay per opportunity in a matching marketplace whose marketing focuses on Benelux, France, and Spain.Sortlist+ (€129 a month paid annually, €189 monthly) needs an annual commitment either way. An opportunity can cost up to €650, and refunds come back as credits.
Paid for Verified, never got the badgeGoodFirms. The free listing is its screening step (it says about 23% of applicants get in), and PRO's Verified Business badge comes after you submit company documents. The badge is part of PRO, which costs more than Clutch Verified ($588 against $499 a year). If Clutch's check is what you failed, ask for its partial refund (minus an $85 fee) within 30 days.
Client reviews slow to publish or rejectedSortlist. A client confirms a review by clicking a button in an email, and you can import Google, Trustpilot, or Facebook reviews. The check is lighter than the human edit Clutch describes. One Sortlist reviewer on Trustpilot says they found fake reviews using their name and their company's name.

The 3 best Clutch alternatives for agencies

  1. GoodFirms

    Published prices, month-to-month terms

Try GoodFirms if the contract or the badge is why you're leaving. The free listing is where it screens firms (GoodFirms says about 23% of applicants are accepted), and PRO, at $49 a month billed annually ($588 a year), adds featured placement above free listings and a Verified Business badge once you submit company documents. Its terms of use describe month-to-month renewal and say you cancel by email at least five business days before the next billing date. But GoodFirms doesn't say whether PRO can end mid-year, and the terms have no refund clause. It has no pay-per-lead product. Its 34 organic Trustpilot reviews average 3.68; the critical ones, mostly from 2020 to 2023, describe profiles created without consent and support that stopped replying.

  2. DesignRush

    Bid on specific project leads

Try DesignRush if you paid for placement, got few or spammy leads, and would rather pay for specific projects. Its Marketplace sells project leads by bid: on projects worth $5,000 to $10,000, bids start at $50, the two to five highest bidders get the lead, and only agencies DesignRush has verified can bid. The catches are the commitment and the refund policy: memberships cost $200 or $300 a month with a one-year minimum paid upfront, DesignRush says it can't provide refunds, and a bid on a client who goes quiet turns into credit. Its 13 organic Trustpilot reviews average 3.69, a small sample; the critical ones describe an annual fee with no profile clicks and a bogus lead that wasn't refunded.

  3. Sortlist

    Pay per opportunity in Europe

Try Sortlist if your buyers are in Europe and you'd rather pay per opportunity. Buyers post a brief and get a shortlist, and Sortlist says its marketing focuses on Benelux, French, and Spanish markets. Each opportunity costs credits, starting at 20, and can cost up to €650, separate from the Sortlist+ subscription (€129 a month paid annually or €189 monthly, with an annual commitment either way). Refunds on opportunities come back as credits, and you have to ask within 90 days. A client confirms a review by clicking a button in an email, and you can import Google, Trustpilot, or Facebook reviews. Its 38 organic Trustpilot reviews average 2.26, below Clutch's 3.49.

Why UpCity and The Manifest aren't on this list

UpCity stopped operating in November 2025. G2's page for Clutch lists it as an alternative, along with GoodFirms and G2 itself, but G2 reviews software, not agencies. If you were listed on UpCity, see where UpCity agencies can list now.

The Manifest is Clutch's sister site. Clutch's help center calls it "a business news and how-to website, powered by Clutch." Any company with a Clutch profile is featured on it and its rankings use Clutch reviews, so it isn't a separate option.

Reasons to stay with Clutch

Going by each company's own description, Clutch has the strictest review check of these four directories. Reviewers sign in with LinkedIn, Google, or a company email. Clutch says a human editor checks every review before it's published, that providers can't preview or approve reviews, and that it rejected 10% of submitted reviews in 2025 for signs of falsified information. Those checks are also part of why reviews take time to go live.

“It is not easy to give a review on Clutch. Because it is not easy I know people mean what they are saying.”Steve S., Trustpilot, May 2024

On organic Trustpilot reviews, Clutch's 3.49 average from 135 is well ahead of Sortlist's 2.26 from 38. GoodFirms (3.68 from 34) and DesignRush (3.69 from 13, a small sample) are slightly ahead of Clutch on the same measure.

The Basic profile is free. By default, directory pages list sponsors first, then verified firms, then everyone else by Clutch Rank. Clutch Rank counts client reviews that passed Clutch's checks, so the reviews you've collected still count without a paid plan. If paid placement brought the wrong leads, Pay Per Lead charges per lead instead, with bids from $25 and a $1,000 monthly minimum, though it needs an active Verified or advertising plan.

If the contract is the problem, time the exit. Note your renewal date, send a written cancellation at least five business days before it, and keep the confirmation. Our guide to cancelling Clutch has the steps, and Clutch free vs paid covers what each plan includes.

How we sourced this: on September 27, 2026 we pulled the 200 Clutch reviews Trustpilot shows without a login (May 2023 to September 2026) and the 10 reviews on Clutch's G2 page as archived on February 10, 2026. Trustpilot's page data records whether each review came through a review link the company shares or arrived on its own; we call the second kind organic and compare organic with organic. Competitor figures come from the same kind of pull and from each company's own pricing and terms pages, checked September 27 and 28, 2026. Quotes are verbatim, typos included.

Clutch alternatives FAQ

What are the best Clutch alternatives for agencies?+

It depends on why you're leaving. GoodFirms has the cheapest paid tier of the three ($49 a month, billed annually) and terms that describe month-to-month renewal. DesignRush lets agencies bid on specific project leads. Sortlist charges per opportunity and focuses its marketing on Benelux, France, and Spain. DesignRush memberships and Sortlist+ both need a one-year commitment, and neither gives cash refunds on leads.

Why do agencies leave Clutch?+

Four complaints recur in Clutch's organic Trustpilot reviews: 12-month contracts with no early exit and renewals that are hard to stop, sponsorship that brought few or spammy leads, paying for Verified without getting the badge, and client reviews that sit for weeks or get rejected. The 135 organic reviews average 3.49 stars; the 65 that came through Clutch's own review link are all five stars.

Can I leave Clutch before the 12 months are up?+

No. Clutch Verified and sponsorship both need a 12-month agreement with no early cancellation, and both renew automatically. To stop the renewal, cancel in writing at least five business days before the renewal date. The Basic profile is free.

Do Clutch alternatives publish their prices?+

Yes. GoodFirms lists PRO at $49 a month billed annually and sponsor slots from $300 a month. DesignRush lists memberships at $200 and $300 a month and sponsorship from $500 a month, billed quarterly. Sortlist lists Sortlist+ at €129 a month paid annually or €189 monthly. Clutch publishes Verified ($499 a year) and Pay Per Lead (bids from $25, $1,000 monthly minimum), but not its sponsorship prices.
